People, systems and mental health at a London university
Depression might not be a suffering condition with the kind of emotional trauma and inhumane treatment that causes another person to die (murder, manslaughter, negligence, etc). But we will feel the experience we have gone through is as bad as a life lost. Some of us would not forgive ourselves for having negative thoughts about ourselves or another person. These are real conditions we face. We can reason that these are only in our thoughts, not real; they represent the thoughts we have consciously chosen to entertain. By refraining from such thinking, we can improve our well-being.
That might be a logical stance, but it shows a lack of understanding about mental trauma and depression. Suffering from such a condition means we become very aware of our “voices”. These can feel like an inner voice or what our body tells us in response to something.
